What are little boys made of?
What are little boys made of?
Snips and snails
And puppy-dogs’ tails
That’s what little boys are made of

What are little girls made of?
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice
And everything nice
That’s what little girls are made of

My dear dad …  he was an old fashioned one. When I was little he scolded me whenever I scraped my knees or elbows telling me I would regret it. Somehow it didn’t stop me from climbing, getting dirty and having fun.

Sticks and Stones Knee Injury

As an adult I continue to accumulate scars including one in my left forearm from stitches after a bike crash, another on my left calf after riding the alpine slide at Action Park and finally a matching set from ACL surgery in both knees (five years apart). You can call me a klutz or maybe glutton for punishment. I heal and then move forward.

Sticks and Stones Knee Scrape

I found that since I joined the triathlon community and met other women who love sport as much I do, I am in good company! Crashes, road rash, broken limbs and more. These ladies make their way back from injury and are stronger than before. They kick ass on the race course and still manage to look beautiful and graceful at the same time.

Sugar and Spice

I have learned that instead of trying to hide my scars or be embarrassed by them, I should keep doing my thing and I should wear them as badge of honor….  to heck with that old nursery rhyme…. I can be badass and beautiful.
